Just don't tend to see them to often in "nugget" shape, the cleavage and softness makes sure of that.
I wouldn't even have thought it was galena, ah the pleasures of living in glaciated lands.

Ya I was pretty stoked when I found that one. I have found plenty of small ones before but this size is more rare.

I'm curious, how did you ID it? Looks like you didn't clean it, no cleavage visible either. Hardness test?

Hardness, no white oxidation, the native americans in this area used galena for ornamentation because it is so prevalent. Other than that I am guessing. Most of what I find looks blobby or melted like austrailian gold nuggets. I have however found a few pieces in their crystaline state.

Neat, IF I find any Galena it is usually while panning, in sub cm sizes.
Usually cleaved and easy to ID under magnifikation. (i.e. they are often cleaved already)

Show some of those crystalline ones, those are my favourites. :)
