I found what i thought was a cannonball at first to day,but when I dug it up it is not completly round it is not completly flat on one side has some shape with a bulge in the center, and what looks to be a hinge tabs cast in on the flat side.I want to post pictures but my computer wont recognize my camera for some reason. Its about 4 inch diameter and weighs a ton.Any ideas what it is the site is late 1800's. Fixed computer usb cable was broken.

that is a very interesting object. Have you found anything out about it yet?

I have not found anything out so far, A ball valve for a water pump? Can you elaborate on that a little,is there some kind of old water pump that used this type of part? This was on a military school from the late 1800's and there was enough housing for 40 or more students easy,I have been wondering myself what they did for water, baths and such back then. There is so much trash on the site I was even thinking of finding the nearest creek and searching there.

Judging by your other L:ate 18-1900 relics It may just be modern Iron
All that junk didnt come from the school site, it just happened to be on the drying towel after I rinsed it off. That aluminum coin in the picture came from the same place and is play money dated 1885,I dont know anything about play money or how they would date play money.I dont know how old it is or what it is,that is why it is in this forum.
