Hey Guys, :hello: its been almost a month since I last posted and wanted to share my finds from my last couple of hunts with you. I went back to a couple of sites that I already had as well as

some new ones. When Roger was down a couple weeks back, he was watching as I popped out a very cool copper coin from a site that was host to Connecticut, New Jersey and New

York soldiers. I found it within the first 10 minutes of Roger and I arriving there and when I popped it out it was a very large Copper with Arabic writing on it. I've seen stuff like this

found before in Civil War campsites around Richmond as well, my buddy dug an Egyptian Watch Fob last year from a campsite. Also was able to pull some Eagles and a nice variety of

lead including a Wormed .69, a flattened musketball made into a poker chip/checkers piece, a carved piece of Enfield and several other nice bullets. Managed a really nice Colonial Shoe

buckle the other day as well, but so much for describing them, here's the photos and thanks for looking guys. Also, as y'all now know Jeff is back, he and I have stayed in touch while

he was gone and I was waiting for him to make his return post before I said anything but now y'all know and a great way to come back with a nice 19th century piece of Silver, congrats

buddy!~ :occasion14:

Roger (Getty) and I had just arrived at a Civil War campsite property that I have permission at. This site was occupied by soldiers from many states but this particular part was camped on by Connecticut, New Jersey and New York troops. We were there maybe 10 minutes if that when I got my first good signal; it was very deep and very faint but solid and repeating. As Roger was digging next to me, I popped it out and it was a beautiful large Copper but right away I could tell it wasn't a Large Cent as it was a little bit thinner and larger and aside from that, it was plastered with large Arabic writting all over it. Probably lost by one of the soldiers who was camping there, a little personal piece. This find made my day and I got it home and researched it and it turned out to be an 1861 Ottoman Empire Copper minted under the reign of Abdul Aziz:

Nice batch of buttons, those Zoaves aren't easy to come by.
Sweet ring & Barber lookin fresh from the Mint :D
Great pile o lead too! Thanks for showing

Thanks SHW, I agree, it looks like it wasn't in circulation long at all before being dropped to the ground. Roger aka Getty was with me when I dug that one up from about 10" also. The soil here in many places is very sandy and that means that it is Very kind to Gilted Buttons, Silver, and Brass. That was my very first find of the day that day....of course the photos above are after being cleaned up a little. Cheers buddy :occasion14:

Very nice finds Josh. You have been recovering so much history lately. Good job. Hope to see you soon.

Thanks Randy, it has been a good year I definitely can't complain....found my oldest find this year which previously had been that 1561 Elizabeth Shilling, now I don't think I'll ever beat a find that's older than 2100 years old. What I really would like for the year is to get a nice CS Tongue :) Are you ready for DIV?

I am sooo ready for DIV. At least it will be a lot cooler than now. Our campsites over here are deep in the woods and way too hot and too much overgrowth to hunt right now. I went to a park yesterday that has produced some wheats, bullets and buttons and came away with a merc and wheat. I would rather find a 3 ringer than a merc. I just enjoy relic hunting much more. I did have a guy stop by and ask me if I would like to hunt some property his family owns. Supposed to be a Confederate cannon placement on the property and they are intested in knowing if anything there. We exchanged phone numbers so we can get together. He also wants to join SCV and his wife wants to join UDC so I invited them to our camp meeting this Sunday. Had a great visit with him. Although I did not find much I did get permission to hunt some great sites.

I'm the same way, I don't mind when that other stuff finds its way under my coil but I like the CW and Colonial stuff. Yesterday sounds like a winner to me if you got permission to scout out a new site that had Confederate activity AND Works. Sounds like it could be a promising site AND you snagged us a couple new members to join our ranks! I'd say that's definitely a GOOD DAY Randy!! I know I cannot wait for DIV either, I look forward to it every single Fall and Spring b/c its like a reunion of friends with the opportunity to dig some really Great Civil War relics....what's better than that?? I can't think of too much :laughing9: :occasion14: See you soon Compatriot and friend

Well it's about time you posted this stuff! ;D
It was worth the wait Bud!
Awesome bunch of finds!
And a silver ring to top it all off!
I was hoping you were gonna say you found it in the water or on a beach.
But no matter where it came from it's sweet.
That Ottoman Copper is really cool!
Congrats Josh! :headbang:

Rob, I wish I had found that ring on the beach but I tell you that I went out to the beach this past weekend with the Whites and did dig a bunch of change and other stuff. I'm gonna try to get my jon boat and go up into some creeks with it.

I believe the coin in the hand is a 20 para versus the 10 para coin pic showing boths sides.
Don........

Indeed it IS a 20 Para, however the 10 Para was a good photo representation of what the coin looks like with only the Arabic number in the middle of the Obverse being the difference so I used it as there's not many nice photo representations of this coin around. Notice that I didn't call it a "10 Para" in the heading but just used plain "Para". Thanks for the attentiveness however, let's me know you're on the job. :laughing7:

Great finds as always Josh. Would love to come back there and dig with you sometime. I have a site near Fredericksburg and one in Brandy Station I will be going to with Mike soon. Maybe you can joins us. Heading to KC tomorrow and will be back in a few weeks. Look forward to your next post. -Bob

Dude that buckle is killer man :headbang:

Look at the variety you got there :notworthy:

Cant ask for much more than that
