I call it a mystery camp because we find all sorts of relics from the Civil War era except Minie balls. We have only found 2 Minies so far but we now have around 20 Eagle and Eagle I buttons. We even found one Louisiana militia button and a Model 1851 sword belt plate. We have found around 30 small round balls that are about .38-.40 caliber. I have hunted alot of period sites and around here you usually find one button for every 15-20 Minies. If anyone out there has any idea what's going on with this site I'm all ears. Also, if anyone can tell me what the large brass buckle and brass funnel shaped piece is I would appreciate it.

It might be an old CW pistol training range. Good luck and keep hunting!

Thanks Slats, but all of the round balls are drops. Some even had the mold sprues still attached.

Possibly a small union camp. Not finding many 3 ringers is kind of strange, but not unheard of. Are you finding the round balls around a central location. Maybe around a mound or a higher spot than the other grounds?

Strange.. but who's complaining!

No, all were found within the foundation stones of what I'm guessing was a hut as were the 2 Minies. All the relics in this post's picture were found outside the hut.
