Back to the area I dug a Breast Plate a few weeks ago. A huge area with several hundred acres. Reflecting back on my only other hunt at this site I am lucky I found that plate! Luck has a role in relic hunting, but sometimes luck is what you make of it.
I have learned a lot from my Virginia friends in that you have to follow the iron signals. That is what I did when I found that plate. Used to be, and some still do this guy's around here would shy away from those heavy iron area's.
Of course everyone and I mean everyone around here are surface hunters only! Another valuble asset from attending the DIV {Diggin in Virginia} events is not only the great friends and finds but the lessons you learn as well!
Back to the hunt and we were in the same spot where I dug the plate. We were getting iron signals again but were digging a few buttons and toe plates, I dug 4 of those in a small area.
Still so much area is overgrown and you cannot get your coil to the ground. Maybe if we get some snow it will kill some of that out by spring. We also plan on digging a few more test holes and hope to get into a fire pit. The last two pics are our finds from our last trip to this site. I hope everyone finds the relic they are dreaming of in 2009! Tim
