Weather is just too nice to let the last day of the year go by and not get out. I went to work at 10:30 PM on the 30th until 7:00 AM and from there went to the school that had yielded some silver hoping for more and I was not disappointed. Heavy frost on the ground, slight wind, and in the 20's, just perfect for some dirt digging!!
I pretty much went to the area I had finished and started slowly gridding, being rewarded with a couple wheat's and two new quarters on the ground. First silver was a crappy sound which turned out to be the 46 Roosie, then the 27 Buffalo Nickel. Hit a few more wheats before I got a nice solid hit, right in the upper right corner of the screen. Carefully digging down popped out the 19??-S SLQ, rechecked the hole and found the 1927 Merc hiding with the Lady. Not bad I'm thinking, 3 silver coins and still a couple more hours to dig. Hitting clad with the wheats I had another nice hit and pulled the 51 Roosie in the same hole with the 38 Merc and a 38 Wheatie, not another two steps and out popped the 41 Washington Quarter. I'm on cloud nine but unfortunately the long night was finally taking its toll and headed back to the truck, hitting yet another Merc(44) along the way. Man, what a way to finish the year. I hit the school three times the last week netting me 15 silver coins, two Buffalo Nickels, 33 Wheats(30's-50'), and a silver charm. I have a strange feeling I'll make a few more stops there next year...
Totals for the day:
10 Clad Quarters
1 Silver Washington
1 SLQ
15 Clad Dimes
2 Silver Roosies
3 Mercs
9 Nickels
1 Buffalo Nickel
12 Memorial Cents
14 Wheat Cents
68 coins $5.76
