Looks like a Appalachian/Savanah River, thats if you have those type in your state..

Molly :)

I would say from your region, it's a Kirk Stemmed, heavily resharpened on one side, so it was probably in the handle while being resharpened. Very nice find, thanks for showing it!

Thanks for the response,

Molly it sure looks like a Savannah, but it was found in
Indiana. Creekwalker said Kirk stemmed both are from the
Carolinas up to Kentucky. Resharpening alternate bevels that why
it looks so off balance as I read in my points book. I'll look for some-
more examples in my collection. Do you find Kirks in mid-Ohio?

Thanks,
Bruce

I was thinking more like Appalachian, which are Savanah Rivers where I am. JMHO.

Molly :)

Thanks Johnnyreb,

Few miles from Ohio state line. Far as I know Kirk stem.

Thanks,
Bruce

Looks like a kirk to me as well. Gets the heart pumping pretty good when you find one laying out like that!

I would say early to middle woodland knife and avoid the name all together :tard: On a more serious note, I'm looking at this and wondering why you guys think kirk? Here's a link to a flintknapping site that has a picture of what always pops into my head when I hear Kirk point http://www.flintknappers.com/curtis_smith/cs100.jpg I'm guessing that the kirk point kind of morphed over time like so many other types- or is the kirk corner notch a completely different thing from this type of kirk? Forgive all the questions but I don't have any of my referrence material handy and it got me to thinking *trouble* We really don't have the kirk family of points up this way...well, not by the same name anyways, so I don't get to deal with them or look at them much.
