I found this while detecting. It's a plain lead disk. It's 1.75" across and has no writing but a few scratches. I can't imagine what it was used for. It has no holes or indention's.

I believe you pretty much solved it with all of what you described, except for the weight. As for what it is I'm thinking a unused lead seal maybe?

If found near 19th century military activity and the weight is consistent with a musket ball or minie ball, could be a poker chip flattened from a bullet.

I agree. I think it's a "poker chip" piece where, especially if soldiers were in an encampment, soldiers would flatten out bullets and use them as game pieces when they were bored.

There was Civil War activity in the area, both south and north. At 1 3/4" across and 1/8" thick it seems to be big to have been a bullet. It's heavier than my 3 ringer .58 cal. On one hand they could have melted more than one bullet to make chips. All dress weights that I've found have an open center with a cross piece. But it doesn't mean they were all like that.

There is a game old folks used to play called pitching washers to the hole. My grandfather has spoken of it and I have found some lead pieces that are identical to yours. He said they would melt lead in snuff lids etc. to make them. Just a thought.

bighoss you may or may not be right but I can relate to the washers game. As a kid that was a major game on weekends for the family and friends, except we used steel washers with a hole in the center. This disk is beat up somewhat so who knows maybe it was used in the game.

Find these sort of things all the time. Just chalk it up as a homemade weight, best guess, but the makers the one you want to ask.
