Found this heavy egg shaped object about 8 inches deep with my ATPRO.....its weight tells me it is lead......it was found in an area that has yielded musket balls and buckles ....and is near an old Am. Revolutionary Tavern used by the British.....any ideas? DSC02675.webpDSC02678.webp

Is there a hole through end to end?

Actually you got me wondering.... Didn't farmers use to feed cows stones and such things to aid in their digestion? Possibly even lead? Before they found out it was harmfull?

No holes....just a solid,pitted piece.

Didn't they put faux eggs in nests to aid Hens in laying more eggs, just a thought ....

Sure looks like a lead sinker to me. Could be the center hole filled in with dirt, lead oxide or got smashed shut or the steel eyelets rusted away or broke off of it. I can't think of what else that thing could be ??? It does look like its been in the ground for a very long time. It sure would be a wild flying projectile being shaped like an egg.

This link has what they call a lead net weight http://www.flickr.com/photos/10077735@N08/5648171500

Agree, seems to be a fishing sinker, or net weight.
