Found in the woods. It could be made of lead because it feels heavy and looks like lead. Unless they made caps like this out of zinc and lead. It is screwed into a piece of rusted tin that has solder on it. The cap is 1 1/2" across and has a "J" on the center of the cap.
Any ideas what the cap is and what it was used for?
I don't think acids were used in the container but something less harmfull.

More likely to be pewter than lead.
It could be pewter and being small it's harder to tell. I have done some research on caps and it could be called an Internal Threaded Stopper/Closure . I have only found them in use with a glass bottle and they were not made of pewter or lead.

Thanks kuger. It looks just like yours and I was looking at the black powder tins and couldn't tell what the cap looked like. Thanks for solving this.
