Started out in the 70's as a teen with TR machines then used some VLF machines, mostly beep and digs but also some simple TID machines. The Legend has me totally confused, came with 1.09 and it's been updated to 1.11. I've been using it in factory mode but I just can't get the hang of it. Help requested or recommendations for something else that is simpler and can work the beach since I moved from Ohio to Dunedin Florida. Thanks.

What kind of issues are you having specifically? Trouble IDing targets or what?

ID, tones, separating multiple targets. Seems like sensory overload.

If you haven't done it yet go to the Nokta web site to the downloads section for the Legend and download the PDF manual for the V1.11 update as it has more stuff you don't know about yet.:icon_biggrin:
Page 9 of your manual will give you an idea of what targets fall within what zone# from a scale of 1 to 60.
If you have not changed any settings on the Legend yet then you should be 2 tones for each search mode by default.
Learning to navigate the settings seems like a task at first but once you go through them it gets easier for now I would spend some time in the manual.
You got a good detector that is for sure.

As far as target separation if your in beach mode which I assume you are you could set your recovery speed up a bit as it is a default of 6 in beach mode.

The Legend has no problems on the beach, so it sounds like you're having problems with the 0-60 scale. On Youtube, Gigmaster is currently using the Legend on the beach and he's done videos on VDI's and general beach detecting videos. With the Legend generally anything in the 40's-50's is good, 25-29 is nickels, and gold can be 7-51. Merrell on NYCdetecting has done a video series called his "VDI Bible" for different detectors, which is a very good primer on whats-what with Legend VDI's. Merrell has also done extensive beach detecting with the legend.

When I got my Anfibo with the 99 tones I had the same problem. For a while I never really clicked with it, so I would usually just stick with 5 tones. I started using 99 tones more in less trashy areas and found it started to make sense after more exposure to it. With the Legend I did the same thing. I started out in 6 tones, which is fantastic! I found tons of targets. After a few months, I started to use 60 tones more and found that once your brain starts to recognize the signals it's less work. Instead of adjusting parameters on 6 tones constantly on my machine, I just had to decide where I wanted iron to come in the rest of the tone recognition was just mental exercises.

I planted a pretty extensive test garden today in an attempt to help me learn. Contains gold, old silver, clad, and various types of trash. Discovered that I will dig the number 11 when I see it, it's always been foil but my wife gave me a thin 14k white gold diamond ring from a previous marriage to plant and it comes in at 11 also.

Pretty much have to dig strong repeatable signals and sift through the trash. Today I was digging a strong 34 which is usually some kind of pull tab and it ended up being a sterling feather pendant with stones that was about 4" long.

Oof...I can't even count how many of those 34 signals I've passed up. Most sound "funky", but now I'm thinking about digging the solid ones.

I know where you're coming from, I too started out with the VLF machines back in the day, beep dig.
Try setting your legend to single tone and see if that helps. I can't handle all those tones either they can be confusing to me, but I can see where others would like that. Then when you get a solid hit just see where it rings up on the target display. If you're looking for coins 24 to 27 would be a nickel and anything above 40. But if you're looking for gold you know what they say dig everything.

Solid advice.

I started out keeping the Legned in Park M1, only doing a noise cancellation and then adjusting the sensitivy to quiet the machine down. I've gone a little deeper in the menu by now, but those initial settings are still great for general use.

I will say in the local ground conditions, nickels run 23-27, and then I'll dig anything 38-39 if it's a solid, repeatable signal that also appears to be a small target. Anything 40+ definitely comes out the ground....unless it sounds like a giant target.
