Hello,
I'm trying to figure out a symbol in an area that is mainly around streams and creeks in very local maps (1870's - 1900's), i was initially thinking it was maybe a swim hole but then found a County/State map and it was also showing these symbols so now i'm doubting that. The symbol is a dot with a circle around it, see attached image. Many thanks if you know what this is and can help out. :notworthy: Screen Shot 2018-08-10 at 12.52.50 PM.webpScreen Shot 2018-08-28 at 11.41.27 AM.webp

I believe it designates a populated area; with more people than another area designated by just a circle. In your case, I believe it keys to a population range of Moneka, KS.
Don...

I own the property on the first image in the area of D. Wright, that parcel of land is about 300 acres of pasture and timber with a small creek running through so i doubt it would be a populated area marker. The Lime Kiln suggestion seems more about right, or some sort of structure marker.

A dot with a circle is usually the county seat. Gary
