I own a C5, and I have NEVER raced it. The ONLY time you see someone racing, is because they have it paid for from their parents, or, they are just simply stupid. My C5, I love it because it's ALL electronic... don't have to push a button because it's quite smart and not only senses the way your drive, but adjusts the temperature for you as well. Very comfortable seats, with all the hugs and curves that are very adjustable too. I've been approched by people at stop lights before and they rev their engine, and I rev mine, indicating 'lets go'... And when the light turns green, they are gone and out of mind... hopefully realizing that I just played them for the stupid that they are... Meanwhile, I'm about 100 yards behind them doing 30MPH. Stupid people do not deserve to have these cars.

Sheesh...kids.
Wish I was that young again....

Best,
Scott

PS. Did some things when I was young that I didn't get caught. HA!

MikeofAustin,

You obviously were born in the wrong generation!!! MY generation did that all the time, and now that I'm old enough to be able to afford even more horsepower - instead of burning rubber, I choose to "take off like a bat out of hell". :headbang: :headbang:

Us Babyboomers are the ultimate in fast cars - and being able to tell what a real car is, by looking at it. Nowadays, there aren't too many REAL cars. There used to be a time when you could look at a car, and not only tell what make it was, but, also, what year it was, how many were made, what the paint color was, the engine size and what the tranny and rear ratios were.

Now, Corvettes, Jeeps,(some) and a few others are the only ones that "stand out"- my favorite day (for vehicles and income) was the day I walked into a Ford dealership, pointed at a Shelby Cobra, and said "I'll take that one ....... with me". The guy laughed - but I drove home with it.
Let me tell you - it never went 30mph behind anyone else. :laughing7: In fact, I'll tell you a little true story.

My hubby was driving. We were stopped at a light in Richmond Virginia. A guy in a Nova (sooped up) pulled up next to us (just side by side, like the video), he revved his engine, and squeaked his tires. Light turned green. Guy in Nova took off. Hubby did not - but, pulled up to him at the next light. Nova revved again. This was repeated through 3 red lights. The 4th light coming up was a long light. Hubby knew that. Nova squeaked his tires and revved his engine. Hubby said "hold on" Light turned green - hubby took off at the same time as the Nova. Hubby left Nova in the dust. (we didn't peel rubber, that sucker just went). Next thing we knew, the Nova was flashing police lights in the grill. CRAP.
Got several tickets. Speeding, improper driving, wreckless driving. Possible loss of license. Went to court. We got an honest cop. The judge asked for the radar printout - Nova cop said he was so busy trying to catch us that he forgot to do it. Judge asked for the amount that the car had skidded out of the lane. Cop said it never went out of the lane. Judge asked for distance we left rubber on the pavement. The cop said we left no rubber on the pavement. Judge dropped all the charges, except for the improper driving. $10.00 plus costs, no points on license (instead of about $600.00 and 12 points and license suspended for a year).

Man, I loved that car!!!!!!!!

Mrs. O,
Great post, but no mention of 'cudas...Ummmm. spinning tires in third....Dang, weren't the 70's great?

I've said too much...

Best,
Scott

Cuda's fit in with the "we used to be able to tell what the cars were".

Yep, the 50's, 60's and 70's WERE great!!!!!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I think the moral of the story is that there is a time and place for everything. Go ahead and race your Vette, but do it on a track or runway or whatever. It also helps a lot if you know what you're doing!!

That Nova cop case should have been tossed due to entrapment...can they do that?

BTW - My daughters are saying that the two drivers now have warrants (?)

Yup, typical unskilled drivers of today. They try to impress others with a stock, factory-built car that they have no idea how to drive properly. They should have stuck to stock Nissans with big, chrome tailpipes. ;D

I see setup here.
no one is going to video 2 vets in front at a stop light for NO good reason and happen to just think, geez I will video this. duh
it was faked to video the race and Boom one idiot loses control

I guess it was entrapment. Personally, I really think the cop was ticked off that he got beat. :laughing7:

Witness captures street race, wreck on video

Woodlands resident Gerod Rush captured video of a drag race turned collision on his iPhone Thanksgiving morning and uploaded it to his YouTube channel "Thegrowingrushfamily."

A drag race between two Corvettes in a residential area of The Woodlands ended in a collision Thanksgiving morning and a witness to the race and wreck caught it all on video.

“They were driving like idiots a mile before and then pulled up to a red light, revving their engines at each other,” said Gerod Rush, 29, a resident of The Woodlands. “I had a feeling that I knew what was going to happen next.”

Rush said he pulled out his cell phone and started recording.

Dispatch with the Department of Public Safety said Troopers worked an accident scene around 10 a.m. Thursday on Woodlands Parkway, near the intersection of F.M. 2978. Their description matched the footage caught in Rush’s video.

DPS dispatch said the names of the drivers involved could not be released at press time, but did indicate that no fatalities resulted from the wreck.

Rush said he has not been contacted by law enforcement about the video but will gladly share it with investigators at their request. DPS Dispatch said investigators are aware of a video from a wrecker. However, it is unclear at press time whether the video DPS referenced is the video Rush posted on his YouTube channel: ‘thegrowingrushfamily.’

In the first 40 seconds of the footage, two grey Corvettes are stopped at a red-light at the intersection of Woodlands Parkway and West Branch Crossing Drive. An adult jogger and a child bicyclist cross the road together, followed by an adult bicyclist passing on the right.

The lights turned green and both cars hit the gas. Rush estimated the vehicles may have been traveling close to 60 mph when the Corvette on the right lost traction, went into a swerve, lost control and collided into the Corvette on the right, he said.

The impact sent the left-side Corvette off the road into a wooded area of the median. Rush stopped recording shortly after the wreck occurred.

“I noticed before, when they were going at it just earlier, that the right-side car’s back tire was losing traction,” Rush said. “So when he hard-accelerated at the light, he lost traction and then lost control.”

As a longtime car enthusiast and longtime resident of The Woodlands, Rush said he understands the thrill of a good race; however, his advice to these drivers moving forward—“Keep it on the tracks, not the streets.”

“My perspective on speeding has totally changed over the years. I have a kid now and when I see something like this I think, who knows what could have happened. But these were older guys behind the wheel,” Rush said. “They should know better.”

Rush said he hopes his video is seen by both drivers and further hopes they will seriously reconsider their aggressive driving behavior after watching it.

You'd be suprised... but back when I used to wax my car, and before the next gen vettes came out, I would get these honda kids all the time at stop lights trying to get me to race them. It got annoying. Now that my car is about 10 years old, I don't get that anymore. Plus, my car hasn't been washed in a few years... (rough and rugged is cool).
