Let's See Your Top 4 Silver Finds

Since I have little time to detect I'd love to see everybody's 4 favorite silver finds. Coins, relics it makes no difference. But if you have a silver buckle we are not friends. I've found more than 20 shoe buckles and I've never even sniffed a damn fragment of silver. Well here's a few of mine. This was tough. I hope to see lots of others favorite silver finds

#1. 1652 Pine Tree Shilling NOE 29



2. 1749 Mexico mint Pillars and Globe 1 Real. This beauty was found at a mill site that one of my ancestors owned with his business partner. They only had a cabin there. No foundation and no sign that anything was ever there. It took me a very long time to find this site. When I finally did it produced more than 20 pre 1750 coins. This being the only silver. Most were in amazing condition which was due to several factors. The cabin was on the edge of a river with well draining beautiful soil. Perhaps the biggest factor was the fact that this site was long gone by 1770 or so. So these coins did not circulate for very long. Most of the coins were dated 1749 and were shipped from England to Massachusetts Bay as reimbursement for assistance with the Lewisburg expedition in Nova Scotia.



#3. Colonial Silver Scottish Luckenbooth Brooch. Being Scottish and Irish this was on my dream list as I always wanted to find one but thought the chances were slim. I stumbled upon this site looking for a much earlier site and a terrible signal produced this beauty. I was a very happy boy the day I found this awesome relic


#4. 1772 Real Converted into a Cufflink or Button. Love this Spanish that was turned into a cufflink or a button. Also found a Rev War era sling buckle there. Rev War camp maybe? I will likely never know but I'm glad somebody dropped this

I wish I could compete with you East coast hunters. Here are my 4 best silver finds 1-3 dug here in my county in Ohio.

#1 1812 French 5 Francs, 10 to 10.5 inches deep, dug in rain soaked ground. (2015)




#2 1780 Real (2015) My oldest silver, can't believe how thin this thing is.




#3 1921 Morgan Dollar (2016 Christmas Eve Day) pulled from an old football field, I suspect the Referee used this as his Heads/Tails coin) Pulled the class ring during the same hunt. I had been looking for a Morgan the whole year and boy was I surprised when I saw it in the plug on the football field that was made in 1965.



#4 1834 Capped Bust Half Dime (2017) Dug on Staten Island while hunting with eastcoasthunter21, Bartek, Carolina Tom, Smittyman, Scrappy, and Treblehunter Last Easter weekend. Oldest US Silver in my collection Sorry about the poor pic quality.

Thanks. Love that 1 real. Hope I find a nice dated Spanish like that soon but I have yet toget any new productive permissions. Tracking down owners and trying to get permission is what I most dislike about staying successful in the hobby

Some of my favorite silver finds

My first silver find ever was an 1834 1/6 Thaler. Several months later I found a small coin spill (Gros Tournois) of King Philip IV of France (1285-1314). Then I found this sweet Arnold II von Isenburg (1242-1259) the day before I left Germany. I was stationed there for a little over 3 years. And for my final nice find, a sterling silver ring found here in the states. This one was found detecting an old swimming hole.

Nice finds so far on this post! My favorite is this 1820 dime in AU condition then the 1859O dime in mint state condition. The pics don't do them justice. They are beautiful!!!


Sterling lion with what I think is an ocean wave. Might have come off a British soldier from the Battle of New Orleans. Found several Battle of New Orleans buttons on the same property.

And a colonial cuff link, I think, made out of coin silver.

All these finds are absolutely amazing! I have not been metal detecting for that long and I just found my first silver coin 3 weeks ago and since then I have found another! So maybe sometime I will be able to contribute to this thread.

1811 5 franc, monster silver like Loco's
Silver coin ring. made from a barber or older with the reed showing through on the inside. mercs and later don't have that.
Solid silver fork Monogramed and dated 1897, I guess it could be 1797 but I doubt it, for sure not 1997 where I found this.
1928 French indo china 20 cent piece
1916 S walker half, key date!

Whoops, guess that is 5 I have some Barber halves that almost made the list but these are my most favorite

Gotta love an old huge 5 Francs. Can you read the writing around it's edge? It's the 1st coin I dug with writing on the edge. I also dug a ring made from a coin, mine is made from a quarter I believe.

Yea me too for the edge writing, pretty awesome. That Franc was a first in a few different catagories for me.
Love your coin Ring. Mine was tiny out of a dime but means a lot for sure. Another cool story on the coin ring was that My brother was standing there when I dug it, Great experience digging it with him there since when we were little kids we used to go with Dad together detecting when machines first came out..

1835 quarter


and yes I know my camera sucks
