letting the recharge batteries run down?

I have a Whites XLT with the rechargable battery pack. my question is when they get low should I let them run all the way down or just recharge them? Is there some sort of memory like cordless drills,etc. have? If so should i just leave the detector on until they drain? Thanks in advance!

It should say in your Papers IF they are the Type that will get a Memory.

I know the Batteries for my Sovereign Need to be Drained.

Mine are Nickel CADMIUM & need to me drained

Yup if they're NiCAD, they need to be discharged once in a while. Your detector ( and a lot of things) will run down to a certain point and then shut off not discharging them enough. Just don't discharge them down too low. Especially if they are several cells in a pack. The weakest one can get too low and actually reverse polarity. I believe its 1 volt per cell. Do a google search to find out for sure. A tail light bulb makes a great load to run them down.

The book with my XLT (bought 2004-5) says the batterries have no memory but I don't know if it's because of the battery technology, auto shut down, or the warranty period. I know this way late but thought I'd throw it out there for other newbies.like me.

Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) don't have memory alot of guy's buy them because they have a much higher capacity.
Nickel-Cadmium ( NiCAD ) have memory.
