Ridley and I headed back out to the same area we hit last w/end. (CW area farms)
Again, we met more great folks, and were introduced to more MDing spots.
One of our favorite people is a character named Rudy who owns an old closed down early 1900's gas station/country store. You can always find Rudy out back shelling peas under a large oak, tending to his garden, or my favorite, indulging in a few early morning alcoholic beverages. ;D Ridley was nice enough to buy a 12/pack of Busch Beer and give it to Rudy to jump start his morning. :P Rudy plucked a melon from his garden, broke it in half, and gave it to Ridley and I to enjoy. He then went in his house (above the old store) and brought me down a few coins an gave them to me. He said he found them in the corn field behind his store. One was a 1908 IH, and the other is a Chinese (?) coin with a "10" on it. I have no idea what it is.
Well, before we could go to detect another location, Rudy insisted we have a beer with him. It was only 8:30am!!! Since Ridley doesn't drink, I had to take one for the team. ;D We thanked him, and hightailed it out of there before he brought out the moonshine. ;D
We hit about 5 spots today but still no silver wilver. :'(
Here were my finds:
*1908 IH - "Thanks Rudy"
*A Chinese coin (?)- Can anyone ID this coin?
*1911 Wheat
*An old flat button (no backmark)
*A brass buckle (looks old)
*A decorative copper belt tip?
Also pictured are two weeks of clad finds.
Nothing exciting, but just a relaxing fun day.

That's a pretty good way to start the day. Glad to hear it went good with ya. Some nice finds there, keep em coming!

That coin with a 10 on it looks like a japanese 10 yen. Here's a link

Nice finds there. Glad you didn't have to stay till the rest of brew was finished off. Might have been a short day hunting...

Here's it converted to a U.S. dollar

Sounds like a fun day, MM. The coin is a Japanese 10 Yen. Sounds like Rudy is a real trooper, and you for "taking one for the team" :)

Thanks for the coin ID guys. Chinese or Japanese, at least I had the "nese" part right. ;D I know one thing, my NESE (knees) are killing me. :'(
Have a great week,
MM

A nice pile of clad, a nice IH and an old wheatie. :)

Man, is that what you southern people do - start drinking at 8:30am?! Wow, I think I would be snoozing by 10 am. :D

Does sound like a decent spot. I had one place we hunted that was built in 1901. The owner said that his dog dug up a mercury dime but we couldn't even find a wheat penny. ::) At least you found a wheat penny. ;D Might still be worthwhile going back just tell the guy you already had your six pack for breakfast! :D ;D

Another great day out with some nice finds! HH, Mike

Congrats on the nice coins, looks like a great spot, I'd get back there. Best of luck and keep the goodies coming! Love the IH, sweet!

Smiles!

LMAO! ;D
Thanks Bob.
I was thinking maybe I should go back there in the evening. Ridley likes to hunt at night anyways, and I can sit there with Rudy enjoying a few brews while he GIVES me coins. ;D
Have a great week,

Nice photos, MM!

Just to fill in some of the details of this trip. Once again, we got permission to hunt every single place we asked. This included 4 old farm houses from the 1850's, a shack in the woods surrounded with poison ivy and a road from the 1700's.

The coolest place was an abandoned school built in 1900. We didn't have much time to spend there, but we're headed back for sure.

The general area has been hit hard by detectorists over the years. Most places had a small amount of clad and not too much trash. A sure sign that someone had hunted there before.

Even though we didn't find anything spectacular, this was one of my favorite trips. It was just plain fun, and I didn't get poison ivy. :D

I just have to ask...did you two make your way down into Alabama territory? That Rudy sounds like some of my kin folks. :D :D :D

Love to read MM and Ridley's posts! Always an adventure!

Congrats on those finds and permission to hunt all those new sites!

Nana :)
