While hunting an 1820's farm cornfield I found this crotal bell. It was packed with dirt so I cleaned it out carefully and found the ball still intact. It sounds great even with cracks in it. The question is, can anybody date it ? The only other ones I can find by googling it have holes at the ends of the splits, and at the top there is a loop or an eye to attach it. No marks on it at all. Thanks

Cool ! I always like seeing sleigh Bells.

congrats!! I hunted a property that dates prior to 1775 today and that is the only thing I really wanted to find. of course I didn't find one...

Very cool bell. Congrats!

i found two before and on the website i researched it said they started making crotal bells with rivets in the 1860s.

Cool, I had hoped they were a little earlier, but any good find from the 1800's is an awesome find! Thanks!

Love the look of that bell, looks well made! :icon_thumright:
Good job in not over-cleaning it, nice patina!
I would've guessed pre-1860, but what do I know! :laughing7:
