Location of cabin point wreck?

I like Microsoft Streets and Trips...but, there has to be something wrong with it's GPS tracking. When I put The
coordinates in for Cabin wreck, it shows it about 27 miles from Sebastion inlet. Yet on another map it shows it just south of the inlet. Also, on Streets and Trips it shows it too far out in the ocean. Are these coordinates correct: 27.49.8N X 80.25.55W ?

I guess I'm going to have to borrow the GPS unit I got formy father

Those are the correct coordinates of the center point of the cabin wreck, and that should put her about 2 miles South of the inlet. Be sure to check that you are using the WGS-84 Map datum on your GPS. I would also suggest you re-almanac your GPS about every 30 days or so. For me, I use the Garmin software.

That area is a real challenge to find the exact location of things like that Cabin point Site. The beach by the south jetty has been dredged up and had allot of sand pumped in from off shore. To the south you will see several large homes on the dunes one has a large area of swamp and trees next to it that is the old inlet that use to go into the Indian River. I had extensive map at one time but a hurricane destroyed almost all of them. Do some research into old maps of Sebastian. I used the National Hurricane Center in Miami and John Gifford at the Miami U. I lived on the beach a few years back and know a little about this. I just remembered another source was The Public Library in Ft Lauderdale downtown had an archive of old charts and books I found some good stuff.
