Looking at the locket dug a few days ago I noticed a second surprise. A second baby pic on the left side.

Two baby pics..

I had a couple of hours today to get out for a while and get some beeping in. I drove to what I thought was going to be an older cellar hole from the 1800's. It had obviously never been hunted before with buried broken brass, and misc. trash strewn about. I only had a little time so I got right to it digging the good sounding solid tones. I received a solid report through my Grey Ghost NDT's that provoked me to cut my plug in the thick forest floor. I folded the plug over, and a locket fell from the bottom side. After digging a few more tones, I turned the Etrac off removed my phones, and wiped some of the pouring sweat coming off my face on the already drenched t-shirt I was wearing and high tailed it back to the ponderosa to have dinner. After chow, I proceeded to gently clean the red clay type soil that was present on the locket off and dab dried it. I assumed it was like the other hundred I have dug in the past that were empty inside. I gently opened the locket, and to my surprise, 2 little eye balls were looking back at me. :laughing7: Someones baby pic inside the locket. Pretty cool. If you look on left side of the locket, there is writing. It reads: J.M.R.&CO. I was hoping for initials. I'll have to do some research to see who lived on the property to locate the relatives to donate it to.

The copper disk nest to the locket's obverse side reads: I.C.M.A
Obverse Edges read: Owners name inside
Reverse is blank.

I am thinking airline or baggage tag

Re: Ordinary locket with suprise inside!

Thanks...It looks to be a drawing and not a photo. What do you think? 1900's?

Re: Ordinary locket with suprise inside!

Cool locket Mikey. I found half of a heart shaped one with no pic inside from where a home had burned in the 1960s. I knew who lived there and returned the locket to the lady who lived there just before the fire. She remembered that she had a picture of 2 of her sons in the locket and that it was on their mantle the day of the fire. She was excited to get it back and never dreamed she'd ever see it again. HH and don't overdo it in this heat my friend, Quindy.

Re: Ordinary locket with suprise inside!

Really cool Mike!!!
I am no paper expert, but I would say from the style of design that it is probably from the '40's. It could be from a baby card or newspaper, drawing. The very large pixels and doe eyes are what you would find in the '40's. I think something from the '30's would be a little more art-deco. Could be early '50's though.
Again I am absolutely no expert on this, but I do have a ton of old newspaper clippings with drawings on them similar to this.

Great finds. I would have loved to see your expression when you flipped the plug and spotted it.

Thats funny! I had a blue eyed doll head rolled out into the bottom of a hole about a month ago. I recovered the target and left the doll head. ???

Re: Ordinary locket with suprise inside!

The copper disc (key fob?) is from the Illinois Commercial Men's Association, it was an insurance company. They were around from 1900 until at least WWII, but I don't know when they went out of business.
