Found this bullet and a rimfire casing today out poking around. Found this other thing not sure what it is. From the Civil war era? Any ideas let me know. Thanks

Awesome finds! The bottom pic is a lipstick tube, the cover is missing.

;) RR

Lipstick tube? It is very short 1 1/2 in long. What time period was this type of tube used? Interesting it does look to have a little red down in it. ;D

That looks like a dropped bullet, not fired. Can you see any of the mold seam on it ?

The bullet is a high base gardner (Confederate) it had a collar that folded down onto the paper cartridge. Your on the trail, keep at it. HH

I'm searching and searching for a pic to go with this lipstick tube...LOL Google lipstick tube and it comes up lipstick tube pickup for guitars.

The lipstick metal case, invented by Maurice Levy, became popular.

However, the Victorian look remained in fashion until mass makeup marketing came about during the 1920's. The newly emancipated woman of America began to display her independence by free use of red lipstick, which was often scented with cherry.

The attached pic is all I could find as far as the push up type.

Hopefully some of the other gals can help ID it too.

;) RR

I agree with River..looks like a lipstick tube...does it have any writing on the bottom?

GREAT bullet!!!! ;D Nana ;)

Nice bullet....but thats definitely a lipstick tube....Listen to us girls! :)

Grib the bullet is a drop. This is a area the Confederates retreated to and were joined by another company to make another stand. Turns out they were able to send the Yanks on the retreat this time. Only about 2000 men on each side so not a big battle at all. Looks like there may be a mold seam on the bullet hard to tell.

No writing I can see. Found the lipstick tube near the dropped bullet. Wonder if the tube dates back to the Civil war. Maybe who ever dropped it was looking to pick up a soldier.

Nice Bullet and Lipstick tube. I found dozens of those Lipstick tubes, small and large. Sometimes the small ones were samples.

Again great find, I'd go back to that site and dig every signal. HH< Ringfinder

Congrats the bullet shows a possibility of getting close. I will be pulling for you to find your spot. Keep on the trail. Hopefully it will reward you with the skirmish site.

I found a complete lipstick tube like that in my aunts back yard from the early 1960's. They were still using the little short thin tubes then. It was gold colored with no visible markings. That's a cool find! Keep swinging!

Where there's bullets, there's relics! Good luck DFX and thanks for sharing!

Sounds like you are in the right area...hit it hard!

Roger good to hear from you. Would be glad to have you up here to do some hunting. We have nothing close to what you have down there as far as Civil War stuff. Hope to you are getting out to hunt some. Talked to Doug today and he ask about you. Hope things are going well. hope we can get together some time to hunt again. If I stumble into a good spot I will let you know.

Sheesh, did you really mean 200 men on each side or 2000 like you posted ? 2000 would be a fairly big fight, not a skirmish. That would be a lot of lead flying, but a dropped bullet is a definate sign you're close. Someone was in a hurry to pull a bullet out of a pouch or stuff it down a barrell and dropped it.

Grib from the records I can find there were around 2000 men on each side. Think this area has been hunted before. Were about 15 to twenty who were killed Total so I do not know how much lead was flying for sure. Is fun to look for and find these spots. Around here many of them are being built over. :'(
