Looking for Gemstones

Search for the great diamond hoax of 1872. It took place all over the west. AZ, CA, CO, UT, NM and even England. Utah has a Diamond Mountain but I doubt it played a major role in the hoax. There are two Diamond Peaks in CO and one of them was part of the hoax big time.

The salted gems came from the four corners area. The main banker was from San Francisco. Diamonds were from London I believe. Maybe some from France. There was also a congressman involved who had the 1872 mining law worded to include diamonds.

I have a map that does mention gemstones being found near the Diamond Mountain in UT. Check out Blair Gulch. I did find an area of interest on Google Earth at the head of Blair Gulch. Do I talk too much? I could come up with GPS coords Red. Do you want them here or in an email? Blair Gulch does cover a lot of territory. I can share this one. I have plenty of locations and I'm not sure if this is a good lead.

If you don't mind posting them in the thread here, can dowse them soon as have time. Wonder whether since they salted the area with diamonds, would have left any unrecovered for us to dowse?

Still might be better to email me any other good locations.

These are the coordinates I have for Blair Gulch:
40-35-45N
109-16-31W
7620 ft. Elevation.

Should be a lake by a road just below the top of the mountain. I took these coordinates from my files and didn't double check. If it is different I will post later.

These two are more accurate.
40-35-04N
109-16-31W

40-35-35N
109-16-11W

The first one is the one I was looking for. The second one looks interesting. There are a lot of places that look interesting.

The map Igot the I formation from wasn't very detailed and could even cover part of the plateau.

I hope this includes your area of interest. White circles for all types of gemstone hits, except clear quartz crystals.

Oops! I see #1 coord is a mistake, both in the area of #2. I'll have to get a map for #1.

Ok, UT-01A placemark shows the right location for #1 coords. The other map isn't dowsed, but shows all 3 placemark locations.

UT-01A is Blair Spring.
UT-01A and UT-02 I believe are both probably kimberlites and there is a good chance they have an archon underneath them.

There should be some nice gems to find if kimberlites..

I'm thinking I should be able to find garnets. Do they need to be gem quality to be worth much?

A lot of types, some garnets are worth more than others. I'm not up on the prices, gem quality usually means more money.

Do you have to buy sn upgraded version of Google Earth to find these locations? I have it downloaded on my computer but can't find anything gold or gem related when I search. Can someone direct me or help me with this please? I appreciate the help.

Free Google Earth works fine for locations, you have to do your own research.....Google Earth only will find names of places or coordinates.

Thanks Red Desert... thats what I thought. I found some claims that were posted by some company or organization but forgot how I found them. It showed the claims that are owned and the ones that are available too. I think we can buy extra options on GE to find available claims but I don't have the money to buy them.
GE is a wealth of information if uou know how to use it.

Oh yeah, there is a way to bring up mining claims in GE. I've seen threads on nuggetshooting forums on how-to-do-it. The method was complicated, couldn't get that to work for me. Try typing in "mining claims" in GE. In a couple SW desert states it brought out these old dates in red. I assumed they must be old claims, but never really asked anyone about them. Those red dates showed up in older versions of Google Earth, never tried searching mining claims with the newer GE versions yet.

Hi bookcliff,
In all the pictures, dowsing revealed:

Wow! Thank you Jon. This looks like great information. It will be six months or more before I can check it out but it looks like a fun one and possibly a rewarding one.
