Don't buy a cheap metal detector. Buy a good detector cheap.

that may be a tall order.

with only that amount you're probably better checking wallmart for a new bounty hunter.
(I never saw them there, But think they sell them for $100.00 ish) or Radioshack.

or get lucky in our classifieds on a used one.
