Looking to start metal detecting soon.

Hello everyone,
Lately i have thinking about starting metal detecting. I have my eyes on a Garrett Ace 250 as my detector. Im curious if that would be a good starting detctor. Also i would like to know any good places for me to start looking into in my area. I live in the Naugatuck Valley. I'm also wondering how many others are there out there in my area that i may hunt with.

I started with the Ace 250 and it is a great little detector. I still have it for backup and freinds who visit. Very easy to use and learn. I have seen many guys on here who still prefer and use it over many others. I would start in your own yard then try local parks and schools, freinds houses, the older the better. I wish I could help more in your area but I am out near New London and am moving to Florida next week. Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

I think the Ace 250 is a great first detector it works very well and its inexpensive.
I'm new to this hobby too, Ive been doing it since last august and have had a lot
of fun. I have the Ace 250 and the Garrett pro-pointer and they both work great.
I considered other detectors but I went with the less expensive ACE in case I
discovered I didn't like the hobby. I bought a cheap bounty hunter pin pointer
but it was more of a pain in the butt in my opinion Garrett's Pro-Pointer pin pointer
is a very good piece of equipment. As far as places to hunt I love old houses the yards
are full of cool things, unfortuntally I haven't been given permission for very many houses
most people don't seem to want you digging in their yards. Schools and parks are also
great places, beaches are fun the first time I went to a beach I found a silver ring and
silver and gold necklaces. I live in Wolcott, CT. so your probably not to far from me, if
you would like to see the ace maybe we could get together sometime and I would be
happy to show it to you. I haven't been out very much with all the rain in June plus the
elbow on my swinging arm has been bothering me, after about an hour the pain gets

I finally ordered my Ace 250 last night. Now i cant wait till get it here. Hopefully once i get it in i can meet up with a few other people near my area to give me a couple of pointers.
