injuries Metal Detecting

Ruined my right shoulder swinging a CTX-3030 years ago (I'm not a big guy), but that led me to getting a Deus 1, and now swing a Deus 2. A silver lining I guess.

My only one was I almost fell in a well. The only thing that saved me was in the past 100 years some kind soul hand place a long rock across the top. Unfortunately I crotched myself on that rock, but if it wasn't there no one would have ever been able to find me. It was a rude reminder to be very careful out detecting by yourself, especially around old cellar holes.

On and off tennis elbow from swinging my AT Pro with the bigger coil. Also have had a few sprained knee injuries from stepping in holes. It's always the ligaments on the outside of my knees that act up. I wear a brace for week or so and it eventually heals up.

My addition to this thread, albeit minor…
My arm cuff on the Equinox broke off, like halfway. I couldn’t wait for the replacement to come, so last nite I stumbled in the cornfields for 3 hours… rubbed my forearm raw.
All I found was a smooshed crotal bell.
I get home, and the replacement was waiting for me lol.

Over the years I have had my share of metal detecting injuries. Do you find that detecting has caused, created, amplified or started injuries you may have not had before?
You Nan mess up your back if you don’t dig properly, whether it’s ground targets or wet sand with a scoop.

You were certainly lucky. I have a story I just remembered. I was detecting a recently replenished beach in New Jersey and at the edge of the water I suddenly sank up to about mid-thigh. There was a moment of fear I would say but I was able to pull myself out. I had heard of a term called ‘sugar sand’ and for whatever reason there was a pocket of it and I sank quickly. So be careful out there.

Also for newly replenished beaches be aware of sand over jetty rocks. A pocket can be formed where the sand hasn’t filled in yet and can be a hazard.
