Looks military, very old and decorative.

Dug this relic in the field that gives me silver. It's brass or bronze; non-ferrous and very decorative.
Any ideas on what it could be?

I'm not sure, but it looks like it might be a book clasp or book decoration of some type.
Although, it looks like it might be a bit thick to be a book clasp?

It also may have come off of a chest or document box... but I'm not seeing military.
