The Mighty Quinn and I recently located a CSA Cavalry Camp in Southern Tennessee where a little known CSA Cavalry Unit camped from March to late June, 1863. The top box of relics and stirrup are mine and Quinn found the relics in the second box. I don't normally keep horseshoes, but since the horseshoe and stirrup had CSA bullets all around them, we figured that the area around the little stream was where the cavalry picketed their horses. Notice the hoof pick and blacksmith made tent stake(?) in my box. That's our best guess! The Mighty Quinn has a plain shield eagle button in his box. He says eagle buttons are a common find in CSA Camps because . . . "Our boys needed everything they could get." If you can i.d. the "tent stake," let me know. We are returning there later to locate the camp pickets. It was fun hunting this day and time. Enjoy your hunting.
Regards,
D. H.

Great displays Dman. A lot of nice finds there.
I was wondering about horseshoes myself, and just posted a question in the "discussion" section.
Thanks for the post.

Nice digs and real nice displays Dman... wtg! And by the way... welcome to treasurenet! Looks like your hunting in a spot that will produce... I look forward to seeing more stuff from you.

Horseshoes? I've kept many... and chucked even more. Like you I decide if they are keepers soley based on location - location - location.

Great Finds & Welcome, Fossis......................

Not only did "Our boys need everything thing they could get", Many of the Soldiers in the CSA were enlisted in the US military BEFORE the Civil war, therefore having these Eagle General Enlistment buttons. That is why they are common among CSA campsites.

Great finds. I bet you had a lot of fun. CSA for sure- just look at all those enfields.

Happy hunting

What type of preserving did you perform on the iron objects? What is on them that makes them look glossy?
