I was working from my home office late this afternoon, when I heard my dog barking. At first I paid no attention to the barking. She likes to alert me when one of her friends is out for a walk with their master. But I noticed something different. The barking was coming from the back of my house. I realized that someone was knocking at the back door, which was a bit odd.
I looked through the blinds and saw my neighbor's 10 year old child and a friend were there. I opened the door and they explained that their friend lost an earring and were wondering if I would be able to find it. Any excuse to power up the V3i is a good one, and this was as good an excuse as any.
"What is the earring made of?", I asked. "Metal, I think", was the reply. I had to chuckle, but when their little friend showed me her earring, it turned out to be marked 925. Piece of cake!
It took about 5 minutes and I found her earring, right where she thought she dropped it. While I was swinging the coil, my friend/neighbor came out to watch. Once the earring was found we were making small talk about work, the kids, summer vacation and the usual sort of neighborly conversation.
After a few minutes, I looked up and noticed the little girl was looking around on the ground in the street. I said something like "please don't tell me you lost it again!" She looked at me and confirmed my suspicion. Lost again! This time in the road. The detector was pretty well useless now. They spent the next 20 minutes looking in the road, while I returned to the lawn. No luck this time.
Kids. You gotta love them!
