I had been itching to try out my new Equinox 800 and finally had an opportunity yesterday morning after I got off of work. I decided to try a spot I have pounded with several other detectors in the past including one of my all time favorites the F75. This place is known for having areas of heavy electrical interference and my pleasant surprise the new machine ran nice and quiet in this spot. Signals were few and far in between, the first coin dug was a 1936 wheat. Another 20 minutes or so goes by and I get a solid 14-15 signal and dug out a cool little gold plated 3 piece cuff button with the letters OSH (Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Home) on the front. I thought oh that is pretty cool, I guess I will get one keeper for the day at least. I ran the detector over the hole again, got a signal and proceeded to pull out button after button until I had 18 of them which included 5 GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) cuff buttons. These were all packed tightly together as if they had been in a pouch that had long since rotted away.
About an hour and a half went by before I got a double blip 13 signal which turned out to be a 1910 V nickel resting at a 45 degree angle 6 inches deep. This is a spot where I would be lucky to find one or two keepers in 3 hours of hunting so I was quite pleased with what I got today.
