On my way to a coin show on Saturday the 10th, I stopped by a few banks to cash in rejects and since no one had much for half dollars, I picked up a little of almost everything else.

2 Eisenhower dollars (1972-D, 1976-D Type 2)
Note that one of the Ikes was found where you pour your coins into the self serve coin counting machine, made me wonder how many were inside....oh well, $1 for free, can't complain.

3 boxes of pennies (2 saturday, 1 monday)

Best of the bunch
* Box 1
Very odd mix in the box, but it includes my best penny found to date: 1914-S (pics below)
14 wheat pennies (1914-S, 1937, 1940-D, 1944-S, 1946-D, 1947-D, 1949, 1952, 1952-D, 1953, 1956-D(2), 1958-D(2))
13 Canadian (1969, 1970, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1980, 1981(2), 1982, 1991, 1994, 1996, 2002)
Also only 13 of what I call low mintage and early memorials (1959, 1959-D, 1960, 1960-D, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1968-S, 1969, 1969-S, 1970-S, 1971-S, 1972-S, 1973-S, 1974-S)
This box also produced the other odd penny pictured. It appears to be a mint error and not afterward to me.

* Box 2
10 wheat pennies (1936, 1938, 1942-D, 1950-D, 1951-D(2), 1954-D, 1955-D, 1956-D, 1957-D)
8 Canadian (1959, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1981, 1997, 2000)

* Box 3
Didn't get to it yet, maybe tomorrow.

Notes:
* the 1914-S is the 7th rarest wheat by mintage and I put the grade around Fine, which makes it around a $20 coin.

* At the coin show itself I sold some average circulated Ikes at $1.10 each. Most were only offering $1.05. Still 10% profit, can't complain.
* I also sold 2 rolls (40 coins) of 1967 Kennedys for $65.25. ($1.63/coin)

And while I was at the coin show picked up a few odds and ends:
1 - 1968-D Unc Kennedy ($1.50)
1 - 1969-D Unc Kennedy ($1.50)

1 - 1952 Canadian Quarter ($0.75)
1 - 1965 Canadian Quarter ($0.80)
1 - 1966 Canadian Dime ($0.35)
1 - 1967 Canadian Dime ($0.35)

1 - 1944 Mercury Dime ($0.85) Could have had a few more as well, but this was the only nicer one.

I could have sold the Kennedys and made 30 cents but figured I would upgrade my son's collection and replace his 1968-D and 1969-D with Unc's and sell the less quality ones.

Got an 1865 3-cent coin for $1.00.
It appears to have had a hole through it that was refilled at some point in the past, but until I can afford to buy a good one this is perfect for my first of the type and couldn't beat the price.
Without the damage it would grade somewhere around VF/XF so, lotsa details for $1.

Also picked up a few other misc hole fillers for a few dollars each.

And last but not least ran into another CRHer who had gotten a box of the new dollar coins at the bank (had the box with him). I especially liked the label attached to the bottom of the box. "Do not sell until Feb 15th."

Sorry to ramble so long, but here are pics of my two favorite coins from those searched above. Enjoy.

Nice cent finds! I enjoy switching from halves now and then. What source do you have for grading cents? I have a few old ones and not really sure the grades. Its snowing here today, but I might try and slip out later and get a box of nickels or cents. Keep looking, keep posting and keep posting pics! Thanks!

Bravo on the 14-S GMan! Bet you did a double take when you saw a mintmark on a 1914. That close to a 14-D. And what an awesome cud that is! Too bad it had to be over the date but it's still a beauty.

awesome finds.
i like that wheat and cud, keep the good finds comming

What source do you have for grading cents? I have a few old ones and not really sure the grades.

I just use the guidelines in the red book.

Here is what is listed in the red book. I usually start having more difficulty at around AU and up. Not too hard to grade the more worn coins.
For wheat cents
G-4 GOOD - Date worn but apparent. Lines in wheat heads missing. Full rims.
VG-8 VERY GOOD - Half of lines show in upper wheat heads.
F-12 FINE - Wheat lines worn but visible.
VF-20 VERY FINE - Cheek and jaw bones worn but separated. No worn spots on wheat heads.
EF-40 EXTREMELY FINE - Slight wear. All details sharp.
AU-50 - Slight wear on Lincoln's cheek and jaw and on the wheat stalks.
MS-60 UNCIRCULATED - No trace of wear. Light blemishes or discoloration.
MS-63 SELECT UNCIRCULATED - No trace of wear. Slight blemishes. Red-Brown color.
MS-65 CHOICE UNCIRCULATED - No trace of wear. Barely noticeable blemishes. Nearly full red color.

For Jefferson nickels
VG-8 VERY GOOD - Second porch pillar from right nearly gone, other three still visible but weak.
F-12 FINE - Cheekbone worn flat. Hairlines and eyebrow faint. Second pillar weak, especially at bottom.
VF-20 VERY FINE - Second pillar plain and complete on both sides.
EF-40 EXTREMELY FINE - Cheekbone, hairlines, eyebrow slightly worn but well defined. Base of triangle above pillars visible but weak.
AU-50 - Traces of light wear on only the high points of the design. Half of mint luster is present.
MS-65 CHOICE UNCIRCULATED - No trace of wear. Barely noticeable blemishes.

Hope that helps. Or you could try searching the internet there are probably example pictures available of different grades somewhere.
