Wow what a awesome day ! Hooked up with DHD with a list of address's and names headed out door knocking for some new places. First house no answer , second house DHD hit the door secured permission and off we went ,no luck on the side or front so I headed around back by the tree line , I hit a nice dropped .57 cal enfield C bullet with a awesome 57 stamp and a .69 cal round ball . DHD worked his way over towards me and hit a .69 cal round ball and a .57 cal confederate bullet . So an hour later we headed out to check some other house's . Next place we both hit one C.W bullet a piece . Headed out of there, next spot nothing , by this time it was 3:45 pm so we decided to try one more place a large farm ive had my eye on for awhile , I hit the door and secured permission and we headed out to the field . I was working the fence line DHD was in the field I hit a 40 on the VDI then it dropped to a solid 22 so I chiseled through the frozen ground and dug up a bright green button but it was incased in frozen dirt so I put the clump in my pocket thinking eagle button , so we headed over the fence rail to the other field DHD took off swinging I decided to work the fence line on that side to ,it was 24 degrees and about ready to call it a day when I hit a faint 87 which bounced to 91 and then back 87 .So I dug down 8 inches and nothing but an even louder signal so I shoved my pinpointer to the bottom and hit signal so I dug down another 3 inches and hit something solid as I wiped a little dirt off the edge I saw bright green so I carefully dug to find the edges I dug out a little over 3 inches and then it dawned on me could this be a buckle ? So I carefully dug it out and pulled it out of the whole , I looked over to find DHD he was way out in the field so I hollared over to him he looked up and said what did you find ? I shouted a beautiful U.S buckle and he headed over . Wow my first U.S buckle out of 8 years of detecting !!!!! Puppy paws behind the S .

So when I got home ,I rushed to clean my finds up and I started with the button which was a big ball of mud so I washed it off and held it under the light and I could see a large star so my first thought a texas button and I was grinning from ear to ear then I held it under the magnifying glass and realized it was a MISSISSIPPI button and even though she aint pretty I keep her ! . So im in hopes there are more at the site !!!!!

I was curious though what does the B.R stand for on the back of the buckle ? Thanks for looking

Congrats on an amazing hunt!

The stamp in the lead backing is "W.H. SMITH / BROOKLYN"

That's a great hunt!

Cheers,

Buckles.

Oh cool, thanks for the info Buckleboy

I'll post my meager finds from yesterday soon..

Fun (COLD) day! Always great to get permanent permission on a 100+ acre farm!
I might bring the tent and camp out next time...when the weather warms!

Awesome buckle! Amazing condition

DHD

That is the manufacturer's stamp, not a soldier name.

Hopefully the others will read the rest of the post where I posted that. ::)

Seriously, a great bunch of finds. That button could be restored, if you were interested in doing that.
