hows is it in rocky and hard sand would think that pvc wouldn't hold up

Very different design. Lots of different ideas I've seen on this forum for homemade sand scoops. If your just scooping in the dry sand, it should serve you fine for a while but it doesn't look fit for wet sand to have your foot on it. The angle you have made would be more for using your foot. Using it without your foot, I would've changed the angle the other way for easier scooping with just your arms.

Nice work! Good enough to where you can find a few golds then upgrade....

Funny my first though was all you need is a pump and a Y fitting on there and you could do some dredging!

Yea I'm not saying it will be the best but that is almost inch thick hardened pvc it would take a whole hell of a lot to break or crack it. Still got to put the front aluminum flashing so it can actually dig hah

Yea I'm a newb as you can tell but having a blast detecting down here in socal

Sorry to be sarcastic! But when that breaks buy a sun spot stealth scoop!

It's all good but if you want a stellar scoop check it out!

may the sand be solf, and the treasures abound.....GL HH

That's an expensive scoop... 200+ dollars wow... Nice looking scoop.

A good scoop is worth investing in. You'll pay for it in no time and you'll have an easier time digging in the water with a professional scoop that's where all the goodies are.

I have been metal detecting for 2 years. I designed and used this scoop without issue for the first year and a half. It works beautifully and has dig alot of gold. I upgraded to a Stealth 720i six months ago but still bring this baby with me every time for a back up. All PVC components are glued except for the nose so that I can replace it when it wears down. I have replaced the nose five times in a year and a half from wearing it down. The only reason I upgraded was to have a wider bite and thus increase my target acquisition time. I really love this scoop.

Agreed! It's fun to DIY...but the effort of detecting without a GOOD scoop is very, very unproductive. I used a french fry basket for a few of my neb days..and it worked. When I got a "real" scoop it was a world of difference!

Cool design Chris, that's thinking out of the big box (store)! Besides the detector the scoop is just as important.
Best of luck out there!

Dry sand scoop? $43.00 and it will last forever. Just sayin' :skullflag:
