Went out to an area thought to be a small camp where the Pa. Volunteers stayed while guarding the railroads during the Civil War, and later a WWI camp. I recovered this chunk of very doty wood that has a beautiful seal affixed to it that says "Northeastern University, Boston Massachusetts" on it. In researching the University, I was disappointed to find that while the school was established in 1898, it didn't adopt the name of Northeastern University until 1923, so there would be no connection between the camp history and the relic.
At any rate, it is what is, but the million dollar question is "what is it" .. or .. "what was it," I should say.
I have the wood soaking now so I can treat it. I will post the cleaned up and preserved item when it's finished.
