Alright,..was able to get out for about 3 hours or so today with the 5". Would have liked more but better than nothing. So the 5 incher was on the patriot with the f/75 along with stock coil for a few comparisons.
The first thing I noticed was right off the bat with the GB. I always stop just a bit before getting to the old house to GB because it's so hard to find clean ground anywhere within 50 yards of it. The 5" ground balanced at around 69-70. Everything I've ever GB'd at this site or around my yard or the other sites of got within 30 minutes of me runs about 58 - 62. The 5 incher was hittin around 70 on GB. So I get the f/75 out..exact same spot,..62 on the money. I tried 3 different clean spots,..pretty much same on every one. I did end up getting a 68 and went with that. It is what it is and may be common for these smaller coils,..I just didn't know it.
So,.the hunt begins,..I start working around the edge of the old house. Marked the first 5 targets and then compared to the f/75. Both machines in DE sense 99 Disc 0. My goal here was to compare coils not machines so I kept it as apples to apples as I could. First target turned out to be a small "gear" and paper thin. Within 2 feet off the corner of the house in heavy junk/iron. Little coil nailed it reading as a nickel. Multiple other targets within inches or less. The f/75 was able to pick it up one direction completely. The other I had some decent audio squeeking through with jumpy numbers,..would I have dug it with the bigger coil?? Well I hadn't yet,..been over that spot 50x,..it's audibly very busy there but nothing ever stood out as a dig me signal.
Second target was a rusty nail,..I did dig several of those.
3rd target was a solid 30-32 anyway you wanna swing it signal with the 5". F/75 said same thing,..one direction did have some jump in numbers do to trash. It turned out to be my junk pendant,..the find of the day. The bigger piece of iron at the far left in the pick was within a few inches,..plus more closer than that which I didn't dig up.
4th target was very small thin piece of wire,..very small in a super busy area directly in front of the house by this bank where looks like old rock steps were. Its a super busy 10x10 or so area. I dug the tax token here. Stock dd coil didn't really give a solid hit on it. Numbers were jumpier,..wouldn't have dug it. Wire is pictured.
5th target was a the brass off a 22 short in basically same spot. 5 " coil was banging on it. TID was 20-22 every time. Roughly 4 inches down. Stock dd coil hit it but not nearly as hard. May have dug it may not,..again numbers slightly jumpier
Dug some more but that was it on the direct comparisons. Was just short on time.
Another junk target,..the very small piece of can slaw hit hard as a nickel-ish also. Even had the double beep I've got so many times on all the clad Ive dug with both these machines.
Another target was a small spent pistol/rifle slug,..
You can check it out in the pics. That's it minus a few more rusty nails.
Take away for the day for me: I love this coil. Completely different experience. Targets within its range are sharper with the better separation I expected. Was not disappointed on that. Depth ran around 6 give or take for a few of the deeper pieces. I'm able to put this coil ANYWHERE I want it. It'll get around all the vegetation/dead limbs/ you name it. Big advantage there. It is said when researching these smaller coils that they are more sensitive to small targets. I want to say for me this is an understatement. As a put my little pile in the floorboard of the truck it then struck me at the average size of the stuff I had in my hand. Really never thought that much about it while hunting. The coil didn't just find it,..it hammered on every piece shown. So,....after getting back home and while on my mower the thought hit me,..............................well what the hell was all those "can signals" I passed up

??

,......and no I'm not kidding........ I get fooled on occasion with a can almost every hunt here and there(smashed ones),.some I dig just to be sure of. But there were several today that sounded huge that I'll be honest I didn't check in multiple directions. I really wasn't prepared for that difference. So to say this coil is sensitive to small targets IMHO could be better stated "it makes the tiny big,..and the small real Big".
Before my next hunt next week I'm gonna take some swings over some coins to check out the audio.
There you have it gents,..I did have a few nature encounters as well,..enjoy the pics. Should be able to get out one day next week. HH-Aaron
