Magnetic Locater

I'm wondering if anyone uses a Magnetic Locator for Treasure Hunting Purposes? This is the machine that Underground Utility Workers use in their profession for locating utilities..

From what I've read it will pick up steel & iron but won't hit on aluminum and other metals ??

Back in the early 90's my father in law bought an expensive one to locate metal pins in a field that were property line markers. He couldn't find them. I brought over my White's 6000D and found all three of them. I doubt if his machine could find much treasure. Gary
