We are repairing an old store that was built in 1858. In the past, it has been a post office, general store, drug store, coffins were manufactured there, and a voting precinct. Found this outside and the first thing I thought was mailbox face plate. I would love if someone could varify this or correct me. We are pulling the floor out this weekend so I hope to have some more things soon.

This is an escutcheon / lock plate for late 19thc trunk. :thumbsup:

I think you nailed it. Lock plate for some sort of trunk.

Yes I agree. A mail box plate would not have a keyhole cover. Cool and ornate
