Saturday I purchased Several history Books
at an Auction. Among them was this one.

#Tamaqua.webp

In it there is a mention of Manila Grove Park
at the Site of the Hospital.

Does any member know if The Grove itself
was destroyed for the Hospital, Or if it
is in the woods near it ?

I sent you an email in .pdf form, on page 22 is said the hospital was built on the park site.

I'll see what else I can dig up.

Thanks Tom.

According to that it's on the Exact Site of the Grove & Cabin

a Little bit of Taxsite Research.

Owned my LEHIGH COAL & NAVIGATION CO
Pottsville ;D

I may be able to get permission For.

Yea, I'd give it a shot, the last pic could have been part of the old grove/park. A lot of coal mine history in that area. Did you read about a company store or a company town around the area?

Tom

I'm sure I glaced over mention of several company towns.

But will need to Re-look when I get a chance.

I bought 8 Histories from 6 different Areas
in Schuylkill, Northumberland, Lebanon & Cumberland
Counties.

so.. So far I just Glanced through them

This site was huntable a few years ago. I didn't find much when I hunted it. A Barber dime and a couple of wheaties. You could tell that it was previously hunted by others because of the lack of finds. Recently the hospital did an expansion which destroyed any remains of Manila ParK.

Thanks for the Update Coop.

Where was the last Bit ?

Bottom Right near the road ?

I went there today. Worked the woods going west from the parking lot. I was there for about an hour, had some things to do, but did find a very corroded wheat, a lock face and some assorted junk, it may be worth looking at further. I did find 4 cut stone blocks with iron coming out of the middle of them, like they where a foundation for something elevated. I may hit again tomorrow since I should have a bit more time. Seems like a pretty large area is left, lots of old junk laying around, like old car seats and other junk. Anyone wanna hit it? I'm still trying to get the hang of this, so who knows what I wont find!!

Do you have any books on Western PA, like Westmoreland, Allegheny, Butler, Armstrong Counties? Would love to borrow them and read them instead of reading them online.
