Manticore - Extreme Bump Sensitivity

So I know this detector has been out for a few years and there was a lot of posts and online activity in the past. I’m confused as to why the extreme bump sensitivity in Goldfield mode is not being discussed more. EVERY SINGLE time the coil brushes up against grass, small twigs, coil touches the ground, bumping small rocks, etc results in falsing and noises. Impossible to skim the coil along the top of the ground. This is with the M11 coil and sensitivity at 20. Is that too high in this mode? I’m expecting to detect 5-10 grain flakes of gold a couple inches deep. Are the factory settings all wrong or is this how this detector operates?! Am I being a cry baby having to learn a new detector? I’d compare it to a semi truck at night with a loose headlight bouncing around. Am I missing something here? People have said to buy an aftermarket lower shaft. I don’t see how this would have anything to do with bump falsing except maybe it’s stiffer? Appreciate any discussion that results.

Also does anybody make a solid coil cover? This open coil design seems to welcome vegetation and rocks to get hung up between the webs adding to the bump falsing. Coming from a Goldbug/Makro Gold Racer.

Don't know as I don't use the Manticore detector.
Does the false signals go away or reduce with a change / lowering in the threshold level?
Does reducing the sensitivity help?

Usually false signals can be eliminated through ground balancing, reducing sensitivity by 2-3 notches, or moving away from power lines and electronic devices.

Well I’m new to it, so I do need to do a bunch of testing. It feels really clumsy with the M11 coil. M8 coil arrived today. Very compact coil. Watched some videos last night after I had already ordered which showed the M9 was more sensitive to small gold and had a little better depth. This M8 coil should be good for trashy coin/relic sites. Not sure I’m going to get 2-3 inches on small gold though.

The noises are not falsing like getting signals from weeds. It’s bumping against things.

The following is tips from others who use the Manticore:

The higher you run the sensitivity, the higher ground minerals, cable noise, etc., are also heard. Once I have all settings adjusted for the current hunt, Then I ground balance and start swinging.

I'm thinking the depth maybe more like 1/2" to 1 1/2" depending. Let us know what you find out.

Even if you get about the same depth with the M8 coil the target separation should be a game changer. Maybe you can be the first here to give realistic feedback or reports on what you think.

I sent another PM about bump sensitivity tips with the Manticore and some other detectors.
General function in gold mode:
Manticore’s bump sensitivity in Gold Mode is a known characteristic of its high sensitivity. Reducing Sensitivity, adjusting Ground Balance, and using a non-conductive rod can significantly improve stability without sacrificing much depth.

Actually when the coil is motionless or does not bump against stuff it’s incredibly quiet.

I’ve got some heavily mineralized soil with mixed in non-mineralized rocks. It’s going to take some tuning. I’ll report back after some time. I had hoped someone else using the manticore for nugget hunting would chime in with their experience. I just don’t think this site has the same folks participating as it used to.

A PM to the people that have a Manticore detector should get you some pointer / tips.
Just asking if the non-mineralize rocks are big enough to use the coils you like first?
Then retune for the mixed rocks mixture.

Well, this fact about the M11 coil vs. the M8 coil is something to talk about both here and of course a PM with others that run the Manticore.
Perhaps some number settings from others will also help?

Inspect the M11 to see if there's a Crack. If brand new it could be a faulty coil.

I've had the sensitivity turned up too high before.
Was getting high tone signals on cow flops.
After flipping the floppers, I finally clued in what was happening.
Had to dig some dirt to clean up the shovel though.

I have read some using numbers as high as 30 - 35. The ground soil makeup will be the big factor to test with. Retuning for each hunt is called for.
The better target separation with the M8 coil should make a difference with gold under or next to nails / iron.
Interesting if someone will chime in about the M15DD coil.
