Weather improving so I checked out several of my detectors after being idle all winter. As threads concerning problems ground balancing seem to show up fairly often, I thought I'd pass on a simple mistake I made. After trying for quite a while, I just couldn't get a satisfactory balance - UNTIL I CHECKED THE SPOT IN DISC. AND DISCOVERED I WAS TRYING TO BALANCE OVER A PIECE OF TRASH. This was in my yard which is pretty clean so I hadn't thought that would be a problem. Any newbies with a manual ground machine be sure to check the area you are balancing over, especially if it isn't working the way the manual tells you it should.
