Map of East Florida Coast w/ Lease Areas??

Does a map of the East coast of Florida exist that already has the currently held lease areas marked on it? I tried to punch the GPS coordinates of the Fisher leases into Google Earth but it seems to be quite a bit off. Some of the lease areas show to be centered over intercoastal waters or over land. I'm thinking this can't be right...can it? If it's not right, does anyone have a map that shows the areas (not looking for exact coords, just a general idea of what areas are leased and which parts are not.

There is (or was) a pamphlet available in the 90's that showed the locations of the Fisher leases along the Treasure Coast. I believe it could be obtained from Mel's Museum in Sebastian. I don't remember any of them extending into the intercoastal but some did go up onto the beaches. Since the beaches are not private here in Florida, the mean low water mark had to be used as a defining line. When a "pinpoint" lease is obtained, the dimensions of that lease are set from a center point, many times over the main ballast pile. As the ballast piles are located on the reefs close to shore, some of the lines could extend onto the beach.

Also, once a lease has been obtained it is a matter of public record and you can get the info in Tallahassee. It is worthy of note that with winter approaching we will be getting some heavy minus tides. Watch the tide tables, you will be able to get further out and into areas not normally available to be worked.

I have a map showing the current fisher lease areas and all the coordinates. I will try to post it when I get home. Wreckdiver posted the coordinates and centerpoints last year or year before. You should be able to find it with a little searching.

Now these are only the Fisher leases, and there are others. However, I don't have them at this time. RioBravo said he may have the other current leases, so we might be able to entice him to add them for us.

Thanks gentlemen. I had Wreckdivers coordinates, those are the numbers i plugged into Google Earth...many of them state to draw a line up the mean low tide line, but those coords are in inland water ways and such. I had heard that Google Earth was less than accurate for pinpointing, I guess that rumor is true. I hate that, because being a computer nerd, I;ve been plotting every tidbit of info I can find into Google Earth, and it looks like most of my current data will not line up with the actual shore and reef lines at all

I've converted my KMD files to work with NASA WorldWind, and it looks to be much closer to accurate. I'm really just looking at known ballast piles, following debris trails, and trying to get a general "lay of the land" before I move out there early next year. If Robert posts his map this evening I think it will be good enough to get me started, thanks Robert. And thanks for the insights as well.

OK, this intrigues me to ask yet another question. When the tides are way minus, and you get some new area to be worked, what can you get away with as far as defacing the beach. I'm not talking about heavy equipment, but it seems that most targets would likely be on the hard bottom under the sand. I realize this is a bit silly, it would be really tough to get a hole dug quickly enough, and water would be backfilling it the whole time, but could you dig an 8 foot deep hole on the beach without getting harrassed by the law?

i am awaiting some up dated info, there, to my knowledge, no active permits in the northwestern coast of florida, two companys that i know besides your self, have been investigating that area, with varying reports but no action started( permit apps, admiralty,...).

Thanks Rio! I think I got what I needed from your pics. Google Earth is definitely "a little off" when it comes to GPS coordinates. I've got it pretty well lined out now though..thanks!

Jason, I use software from Garmin "GPS MAPS OF THE WORLD", and can upload and download my GPS to my laptop with a USB cable. Additionally, most all of these coordinates provided by me are using the map datum WGS84.

Thank you Tom! I'm wondering why I didn't think of this, but I went out to the truck and got my Garmin GPS out, punched in the numbers, and low and behold they were right where they should be I'm a little slow sometimes. I need to pick up the USB cable for mine, and will look into the software as well now...thanks!
