found this site that has maps going back to the 1500's. shows the location of towns, roads and rivers for the eastern U.S. and state maps. also shows sites along the gulf of Mexico. for those who have not used this type of site, when the map you pick comes up, on the top left there is a zoom out or in button, click on the button you want to use. than click on the map. once you zoom to the size you want, click on the hand and by holding the left mouse button down you can move the map to any location you want to look at. boomer

Thank you for the links Boomer. The BC archives was interesting but incomplete,ie it didn't touch on the areas in which I am interested,or at least the info that I want
That however is the fault of the people creating the website and has naught to do with your most able assistance. Fred
