Circular portion on base?

I get hit with these finds often. The marble may be the remnants of a bottle stopper, jar lid, etc.

This Is a marble not a bottle stopper. It looks like a clay marble that has been glazed over and baked. You been out in the sun to long.

Huh :icon_scratch:

It's a Bennington alright..

But seriously a whole new thread could be created just to explore the times most of us have bent down to pick up a marble lookalike. Had I saved all the ones I wasted effort on I could fill buckets. Lots of small light bulbs from the 1940s/50s in clear, white, red, green and yellow. And little, round holder-tops to containers made from the 1920s thru the 50s. Not to mention a couple thousand silvery-looking 'coins' that turned out to be part of the inside-cap from liquor, etc bottles. My instant IDing has gotten much better since I first began artifact hunting but I still 'get gotten' once in awhile. Stone cold newbies to the sport rush up to you with a triangular piece of rock yelling "Look. I just found an arrowhead".
