Marine Vertebrae??

These are pieces of what looks like various backbone pieces that are in different stages of petrification...am I correct? Some are heavy and definitely have turned to rock whereas other pieces are still very dense and light.

Yes, vertebrae , most are most likely whale species.

Thanks! These wash up pretty often at the end of Isle of Palms where there's a cut through the marsh. At low tide, you can actually walk across to another little sandy beach area in the marsh.
