Markers and Monuments in the movies

I have seen many markers and monuments in westerns.
Example: openning scenes of "Two Mules for Sister Sarah"
along a creek bottom Shirley Maclaine is accosted by bandits.
Clint Eastwood is above them, next to a lone boulder on which has been carved a big upside down seven. Symbol for campsite.
In many Gene Autry and Roy Rogers shows you will catch glimpses of monuments. I think watching westerns is good practice.

This is a good point. Screenshots from old western movies have been posted on another forum, illustrating this information. Those particular photos came from the movies, "Lawman" with Burt Lancaster and "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" with John Wayne.
Those older westerns that were filmed in the Monument Value and the Painted Desert are FULL of interesting things. Those done in the Mojave Desert have a few, too, I'm sure.
