Hi all,

Did a bit of detecting today. Found a couple of small silver buttons (duplicates of ones we already have), a neat old padlock (not too exciting--iron), and this unidentified coin. Okay, so I know some folks say not to clean them, but...there were NO marks at all visible, no silhouette, nothing. So...I attempted some cleaning. Rubbed with a little oil and wood skewers. Here's what we got. Not much to go on, I know, but John and I think we see the number 26 at the bottom of the back. And what do you all think of that interesting punch mark? Thanks, Lisa & John

Well there's def some lettering around the outside edge. I think we may be able to figure this out. I will look when I get home on my tv screen. We will figure it out

You may have a Connecticut copper there. If I am seeing ONN. I will look into it later. Celebrating my 40th with some sushi tonight. Man I'm excited about your site. It's anazing

I agree with Abe. Looks like it says Connec there on the right side of the coin. Nice find.

Doubt these will help much, but felt like dinking around... definitely an N ... maybe an S or 5. Other side nada.

This is obviously a very tough one to ID but I def would say a Connecticut copper which dates from 1785-1788. Very impressed with the variety of coins and buttons you have recovered so far. There's going to be some real stunners that come to light. Can't wait to see them

Hey Beep, pretty cool what you did with the photos. Thanks for taking the time and sharing them. It almost looks like you can see a face on there. I'm working on a bunch more coins that we can't identify any letters or shapes. Going to clean them lightly and see what I can uncover. Will be posting tomorrow. Thanks! Thanks Lisa & John!

You can download "GIMP 2.8.18" - really good freeware image manipulation program. The pics were just from fiddling with Filters -> Edge-Detection - GIMP - GNU Image Manipulation Program (takes a while to get used to)

I see what you mean about the potential "face"...

HH!
