Wonder what this thing would ring up as on my detector ??

Odds are thieves will break it into pieces or melt, don't like the odds of trying to sell it on ebay.

Berlin police say thieves broke into the German capital's Bode Museum and made off with a massive 100-kilogram (221-pound) gold coin worth millions.
Spokesman Stefen Petersen said thieves apparently entered through a through a window about 3:30 a.m. Monday, broke into a cabinet where the "Big Maple Leaf" coin was kept, and escaped with it before police arrived.
A ladder was found by nearby railway tracks.
The three-centimeter (1.18-inch) thick coin, with a diameter of 53 centimeters (20.9 inches), has a face value of $1 million. By weight alone, however, it would be worth almost $4.5 million at market prices.
The museum says the coin is in the Guinness Book of Records for its purity of 999.99/1000 gold. It has a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on one side and maple leaves on the other.

Well that's one age old technique of obtaining gold for yourself that's been practised for thousands of years.

Yep, the Spanish did it for some 300 years in the America's and murdered thousands in the commission of their crimes!

German police: Thieves stole huge gold coin with wheelbarrow

BERLIN (AP) — Berlin police say suspects used a wheelbarrow to make off with a 100-kilogram (221-pound) gold coin worth millions.
Police said Tuesday at least two burglars broke into the Bode Museum early Monday morning using a ladder to climb up to a window from elevated railway tracks running alongside the building.
The thieves grabbed the "Big Maple Leaf" coin, on loan to the museum's coin collection, loaded it onto the wheelbarrow, then carted it out of the building and along the tracks across the Spree river before descending into a park on a rope and fleeing in a getaway car.
Police say the three-centimeter (1.2-inch) thick coin, with a diameter of 53 centimeters (20.9 inches) and worth some $4.5 million for the gold alone, was likely damaged in the theft.

I saw that thing at a Display by the Canadian Mint at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. The thing looked like a coffee table!

I think that I saw a video on YouTube of how they made the coin.

They probably put a trenchcoat on it while riding in the car....less conspicuous.....

probably run through a Hard Drive shredder by now :laughing7:

I'd be happy with the particles left in the wheelbarrow. Or just the wheelbarrow, I need one.

like cutting a Hunk off a Cooked Ham.
Every time I need a Few bucks, I'd slice off a sliver,
Melt it into Liquid, Throw in some Quartz
& sell it as a Hunk of Gold :icon_thumleft:

maybe not really, but it's nice to Dream :skullflag:

The big shock will be when the thieves get it back to their hideout, and find that its just a giant chocolate coin.

Lets see them melt that sucker down. :laughing7:

Too large to put into my pocket. Good luck to the police looking for it.

Yea Actually I'll guess they are dumb enough to keep it as is.
and try and sell it on the black market to a snitch.

Right now it is only worth a reward & a Jail Term.

It needs to me Melted to have personal Value
