Looking for some insight on this. I’m guessing it’s a flake, does that look right? It looks like briar creek chert on one side, but the other side is that deep red hue. Why is this? Am I wrong on material or is there something else going on? Any info would be appreciated!

The white has been broke off bigger rock longer, the red part was broke later. Sometimes yellow chert turns red when heat treated. Most likely Brier Creek chert variant of coastal plain chert

Caliche and/or mineralizaiton will cause the whitening on one side over a long time. Like Johnny said, the red surface was a more recent break.
