I'm putting the MXT up against the GT. I think I've found max depth on the MXT. I've just been using the auto sensitivity on the GT b/c its new to me and everyone seems to recommend it for beginners. Do I just click out of auto and leave it counterclockwise? Any other suggestions to increase depth? Thanks-C

On the GT, run it in all metal, ground balanced, and fixed GB, Sens. just out of auto if the detector is stable.

What ever max depth you get one against the other don't mean squat if you then go to another location. What ever you get in inches where your at, won't be the same as someone else's GT or MXT where they are at. This assumes ALL the metal detectors of the same brand are all built the same. Sometimes a super hot coil is shipped for a certain model due to manufacturing goofs, or something else is funny inside to give fantastic depth.

I'm taking both to the Nashville area to have them tested by a couple of experts. One guy has been using GTs since they came out and selling Minelabs for 20 years and the other has at least as much experience using and selling Whites (He personally uses the MXT). Both of these guys have outstanding reputations. Once I know that my machines are running "normally" I'll continue to use both machines on every target. I've been doing this already for the past several days.

I've already identified some strengths and weaknesses in both detectors. I understand that my results will only apply to those that are hunting for similar targets, with similar soils, etc., but the info could be useful to some....

If nothing else, when I'm done I can say "if you're working Civil War campsites, with sandy/clay soils, and the whole area is covered with square nails, and you can only buy one detector, and you've narrowed it down to the MXT or the GT, then I would recommend the __________"
That kind of info might be useful to someone else...but I'll be content just knowing the answer for myself!

Well said. Have fun and Good Luck.

Excellent chopper!

It's high time somebody did something like this.

This should be done with all brands and models.

Your soil conditions are probably pretty close to most states so this will be interesting.

I'm betting the GT will do better with iron. The interesting thing will be depth.

I look forward to hearing the results, Bryan
