I went to two different beaches this morning and the tide was waaaaaaay out! Nice but just was not getting any hits. I got 2 pennies and 1 pull tab at the first one and at the second one I met another MD'er who did not introduce himself. Ah well I'm getting used to that. He did say hello and asked how I was doing which was ZILCH! I ended up finding one more pulltab before I finally gave up for the morning.

Now for the problem - I use a CZ-20 and I am getting a lot of sounds! I mean A LOT! I guess this is called falsing. Generally it is a mid tone sound but every now and then a high tone and occasionally even a trilling sound as if I went over a can or something. But moving the coil back and forth over where the sound came from produces nothing more. This is getting very aggravating. I changed setting around but it didn't help. Can anyone help with this? Anyone with a CZ have the same problems? Why is it doing it all of a sudden? What am I doing wrong? and most important.... how do I solve this problem? ???

Did you say that when you tap on the coil with you hand it will sound off also? If so there maybe a problem with the coil shorting out or some of the shielding exposed within the coil?

Mum I have had that problem. A few questions for you:
1 Is your lead wire wrapped tight?
2 Do you use velcro strips tohold the wire close to the shaft
I solved my falsing by addressing these questions. The coil was picking up the wire as it strummed thru the water. HH Gayle

Mumszie are you checking to see if you have any black sand inside your coil cover? Check inside the battery compartment for connections to battery box loose. Does it do this falsing on dry land?

yes, it does do this in the dry sand also but not near as bad. I do use velcro on the wire coming from the coil to the control box. I will have to check the other things that were mentioned. Thanks for the help. At least I have an idea of where to start looking for my problem. Thanks!

I had the same issue with my CZ20.You have to run the sensitivity down a little to stablize it.
As mentioned, make sure your cable is secure down by the coil, with just enough slack for the
coil to move a bit if it has to,so as not to tug on the connector. One of the best ways to run the
CZ20 is in "auto" to hunt with, then flip the knob to the first disc.setting to ID the target. This
eleminates all the falsing, plus it's a little deeper and wider scan.If I ran mine in disc. while
hunting it would false like crazy.Good luck and HH Joe

I appreciate all the help and I've copied it down to save it for future reference. Thank you all so much!

Mumsie, if you are hunting saltwater then turn your sensitivity to zero and see if that clears up the problem. I once had a Fisher Aquanaut which falsed badly but diminished a lot when the sensitivity was turned down. I use a Excalibur now which will never false.

Mumszie - I am so glad that you mentioned the problems you were having and that people responded with suggestions. I just got the "black" sand out of my coil cover that had accumulated from our hunt on the other coast and tightened up the slack on my lead wire and put the velcro strap closer to the coil. Now to try it out and see if it helps! Will let you know if there is any difference. My lead wire was way too loose.

thanks guys!
