Hi;

Dug this out of the same hole as an eagle shield cuff button. It was real hard to read parts of it as it seems to be made out of pewter. I'm reading F A(?) FERRIS & CO In the center is "Trade Mark" and at the bottom is NY. It looks like it has one shoulder point broken off, and what looks like what would have been a smaller second loop opposite from the large loop broken off.

Any ideas?

Daroofa, I give you credit for solving. As seen in the pic it is a light metalic seal attached to the string. The company began business in 1836 and was in business for quite some time. No telling the year the seal was made. But I'm thinking at least civil war. Thanks.
