A quick lunch hunt turned this up today. Although not sure what it is. No writing anywhere on it. Opened it and its just hollow inside.

Need a size reference, but my first instinct says its a gutted pocket watch.

Possibly half of a belt buckle ?

I believe it's part of a 1920's Egyptian revival necklace. I think the back was designed to hold other pieces out and away from the central design by other chains.

Thanks. It turns out it was a pocket compass / sun dial from the 1920's. The little stem that folded up broke when i tried to straighten it. Thanks everyone. Mystery solved.
